Example Volunteer Program Week 1

Day 1

Lion Rescue Project

Our Motto is: «LION LIVES MATTER»
Meet our 5 x Male Lion Cubs rescued from the Trophy Hunting Industry.
You will learn more about:

  • Understanding big cat behaviour and care,
  • Safety regulations,
  • Dietary needs,
  • Environmental enrichment.

Gain hands-on experience in wildlife husbandry and conservation efforts.

Our lion project connects you with African mythology, where lions are seen as guardians of all species. Experience the bond between Jurg, Karen, and the 5 rescued lions as they advocate for wildlife needs and create a safe haven for these majestic animals.

Day 2

Wildlife Husbandry and care

Caring for rescued species such as giraffes, zebras, and kudu.

Protecting and maintaining vital water sources—cleaning rivers is essential for local ecosystems.

Conducting daily patrols to ensure game fences are secure.

Participating in anti-poaching patrols to monitor unauthorized access.

Day 3

School Mentorship and community outreach

(Our kids need heroes)

Engage with local schools to teach children about wildlife and conservation.

As responsible stewards of our natural heritage, wildlife species and environment, it is our duty to empower our children with the knowledge and love for our heritage, wildlife and environment.

Our programs aim to bring children closer to nature, to understand the importance of preserving our natural heritage and protection of the environment.

Day 4
Environmental

  • Removing invasive plant species and reintroducing indigenous flora to restore the land.
  • Daily monitoring and care for free-roaming wildlife, all rescued from hunting farms.
  • Maintaining roads to minimize erosion and manage rainwater flow.

Protecting and maintaining vital water sources—cleaning rivers is essential for local ecosystems.

Day 5

ENVIRONMENTAL:

Beach Day

So terrible!!…having to spend a whole day on some of the most beautiful Western  Cape beaches…

  • Participate in beach clean-ups (two days).
  • Several of the beaches most renowned for surfing, swimming and sunset picnics are polluted enough to fail the minimum water quality guidelines over the last two years, according to a report released by the Western Cape Tourism.
  • Our beach cleaning programs aim to not only assist with cleaning up the beaches, but also to mentor school children about the importance of the wellbeing of our oceans.

Meals

Mooketsi Wildlife Foundation provides accommodation and three meals daily. Braai (barbeque): meat (steak, chops, boerewors (sausage), chicken, kebabs, special braaibroodjies (traditional toasted sandwich), pap and sauce (maize meal traditional dish), Cape Malay dishes, and other warm dishes, ingredients sourced from local markets, and mostly prepared on an open fire.

We also cater vegetarian and vegan dishes

Two volunteers per room (single rooms available upon request at an extra fee)

Weekends: After a week of dedicated conservation work, weekends are free for you to explore the stunning local area, including beautiful beaches and ocean activities (excursions at your own expense).

Note: Mooketsi provide 3 x meals per day during weekends
